Locals Care is a unique program that rewards consumers for shopping at locally owned businesses.
When you shop at locally owned businesses, you’re rewarded in two ways:
- You earn
Community Points (reward points) on every qualifying purchase
- You earn donations, a “gift” from
the Locals Care business, for the participating nonprofit organization that you
select.

By using your Locals Care community card, you’re helping to keep dollars
in our local economy. And that’s good for our community. Economic studies
confirm that locally owned businesses
recycle a higher percentage of profits back into the local economy. For every
dollar spent at a locally owned business, 45 cents stays within the local
economy — but only 12 cents spent at a non–locally owned business
stays within our community.

Locals Care Community Cards are available at all participating businesses and
through participating nonprofit organizations, including at program
sponsors. Community Cards will be available in Los Alamos in 2008.
In addition, Los Alamos National Bank has encoded their customers’existing Visa® Gold credit and debit cards as Locals Care Community Cards. LANB is also offering a new Locals Care-branded Visa® Gold card.
Present your Locals Care Community Card when you make purchases at participating Locals Care businesses. There are many businesses (stores, restaurants, services, etc.) participating in the program, with more being added every day. Check our website regularly for an up-to-date list of businesses.
Each time you use your card, you’ll earn Community Points, and the participating Locals Care business will donate a percentage of the purchase amount to the participating nonprofit organization you selected when you registered your card. Our nonprofit partners represent a range of causes vital to our community, with a focus on organizations that benefit children, in education and the arts.
When you register your Locals Care Community Card online, you can track your Community Points balance and donation amounts simply by logging on to our website.
Redeeming your Community Points
Your Community Points accumulate
with each Locals Care qualifying purchase. Each point is equivalent to a penny.
When you accumulate 1000 points, you earn a $10 Community Points credit, which
you can “spend” at any Locals Care
business. It’s good toward merchandise, restaurant meals, services . . . any qualifying
purchase from a participating business.
Your card automatically converts every 1000 points to a $10 cash credit, redeemable for purchases. Points are not redeemable for cash.
Community Points are usually available for you to redeem for purchases the following day.
